Life Skills Specialist
Sara Mae Welsh holds a masters degree from Spalding University's Auerbach School of Occupational Therapy as well as a bachelors of Health and Science. She has worked in Long Term Care, Skilled Nursing Facilities as well at Sub-Acute rehab/rehab to home and pediatrics; yet she has focused her career on mental health services. Inspired by a loved one who was incarcerated while in Sara Mae was in grad school, she began to explore Cognitive Behavioral Theory (CBT) to assist in their mental health and coping skills. Sara Mae volunteered at two local prisons where she created coping skills groups to assist with grief expression and healing, self-expressing and learning meaningful activities through various writing occupations. Sara Mae created and facilitated an Occupational Therapy program for a local community mental health foundation that focused on services clients with substance abuse disorder, homelessness, various mental health disorders and trauma. Sara Mae is a trauma informed Occupational Therapist (OT) whose goal is to assist those with addiction to return to life, reintegrate into family structures, work and the community. Sara Mae also hopes to assist with those who are incarcerated learn life skills that will assist in self sufficiency as they return to society.
